What lb per dozen means
lb/dozen is the total weight of 12 towels of the same size, in pounds. It is the most common way hotel suppliers quote towel weight, because it is easy to check on a scale.
To get the weight of one towel in grams, multiply lb/dozen by 37.8 (453.6 g per pound ÷ 12). A 16 lb/dozen bath towel weighs about 605 g.
To get GSM (grams per square metre), divide the weight of one towel by its area in square metres. A 70 × 140 cm bath towel is 0.98 m².

Heavier is not always better
A heavier towel feels more luxurious and absorbs more, but it also takes longer to dry, uses more energy in the laundry and costs more per piece. Spas and serviced apartments that wash towels on-site often prefer a mid weight that dries quickly; full-service hotels positioning on comfort often choose the heaviest range.
The best test is a trial: put a few towels into normal service, wash them with your own laundry process 20–30 times, and check softness, shrinkage and weight loss.
