Choosing the fabric
Most medical uniforms use one of four fabric families. Poly-cotton is the most common all-round choice.

Washing: plan for hot water and bleach
Hospital and clinic laundry often uses high temperatures and chlorine or oxygen bleach to disinfect. A fabric that looks good on day one can fade, shrink or pill after a few months of this.
Ask the supplier for colour fastness to washing and to chlorine, and for shrinkage after washing. Polyester-rich blends keep their colour and size best; 100% cotton should be pre-shrunk; stretch fabrics last longer if the laundry avoids chlorine bleach.

Fit, sizing and colours
Staff wear uniforms for 8–12 hours, so fit matters as much as fabric. Order a size set first and let a few staff try it, or have each person measured for made-to-measure uniforms.
Many clinics use colour to show roles, for example one colour for doctors, another for nurses and another for assistants. Embroidered logos last longer than printed ones under hot washing.

Antibacterial fabrics: what they do and don't do
Antibacterial fabrics, such as those treated with nano zinc, inhibit the growth of bacteria on the fabric itself. This helps reduce odour and keeps uniforms fresher during a shift.
They do not replace normal laundry, hand hygiene or protective equipment, and they are not a medical treatment. Ask for the fabric's test report (for example ISO 20743 or AATCC 100) and how many washes the effect lasts.
